C hristine Gilloon is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) with a combined 28 years of professional, volunteer and personal experience in nutritional health education, counseling and management. Mrs. Gilloon Virginia Surgery Associates (VSA) Medical Weight Loss Program/Nutrition Services Program in September 2018 after relocating to Northern Virginia from Harlingen, Texas. Prior to joining the VSA team she was the Lead Dietitian at Valley Baptist Hospital where she created and led the Outpatient Nutrition Services program to serve critical and non-critical patients within the community as well as a part time relief Clinical Dietitian for the hospital. Mrs. Gilloon also gained experience managing nutritional requirements for critically ill patients at Solara Hospital in Brownsville, Texas. Her early professional experience included working with patients afflicted with Kidney Disease, Diabetes, Cancer and Immunodeficiency disease as a member of North San Diego (California) County Public Health. She began her career as an RD with the American Red Cross in San Diego, California where she provided nutritional health education and counseling for disadvantaged families from the United States and Mexico.
Mrs. Gilloon studied Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Florida where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1994. In 1996 she completed an internship program in California after a vigorous curriculum of academic and practical skill application at accredited hospitals in the greater Los Angeles area to include San Bernardino and Palm Springs. She has been a Certified Diabetes Educator for the last three years and has served as a board member of the Rio Grande Valley of Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for over 2 years. She is committed to continued professional development and regularly attends conferences and symposiums to stay abreast of innovative education, treatment and technological breakthroughs in her field. She is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) since 1996, Diabetes Care and Education (DCE) practice group since 2001, American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) since 2015, Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic (TXAND) since 2014, and a new member to the Northern Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic Association (NVAND).
Mrs. Gilloon’s personal life closely mirrors her professional in that she has been managing Type 1 Diabetes since the age of 15. Her patients can take comfort in the fact that the advice and counsel she gives them is the same as that which has helped her to maintain a healthy lifestyle, become a successful healthcare professional and eventually allow her to pursue her desire to travel the world. Christine and her husband of 22 years reside in Ashburn, Virginia with their two sons.
